The “Grade” Section – Quiz Setup

When setting up a quiz, the “Grade” section includes three options:  Grade Category, Attempts Allowed, and Grading Method.

Grade Category

Grade categories are created in the gradebook.  A module explaining how to create grade categories is available here.

The default grade category is “not categorized.”  If other grade categories have been created, they will show up in the drop down menu for you to select.

Attempts Allowed

The default setting is “unlimited attempts,” however, if you select this option, VSTAR Learn will allow your student to submit his quiz, receive a grade, and then retake the quiz.  If you would rather your student only take his quiz once, you will want to change this to “1.” There is also the option to set other numbers of attempts.

Grading Method

This option is only available if you select more than 1 attempt under the “attempts allowed” option.  Since the student may have submitted multiple copies of the quiz, the system needs to know what number to transfer to the gradebook.  You can choose whether to submit the student’s highest quiz attempt, an average of all submitted quiz attempts, the student’s first quiz attempt, or the student’s last quiz attempt.
