Using Spark Learn Search

The following video provides a brief introduction to using Search in Spark Learn.  Below the video is a short article explaining the search process.

Search is continuously being improved, so check back for more updates!

The Search button in the black bar at the top of the page will search within all of Spark Learn.  Search is role based and will return what an individual is able to see based on their role.

Search Spark Learn

Once you select the search button, a search page will appear which allows you to filter your results.

Search Spark Learn 2

This search will look for content within:

  • Course categories
  • Course topics
  • Course titles, summaries, and descriptions
  • Activity and resource titles, summaries, and descriptions
  • Forums and threads
  • Wiki contents
  • Quizzes and quiz questions
  • Folder and category names
  • Labels
  • Acronyms

Currently the search does not search the calendar or within documents (Word documents or PowerPoint slides, PDFs, or other uploaded documents).  However, that functionality is in development.

The blue search bar at the top corner can always be used to search globally and filtered to search within a course. Check the course you wish to search under “Select Course” and enter your course specific topic into the search bar.

Results

Results can be sorted by type, such as assignment, file, or quiz.  The results page also lists the topics where the result was found, and provides a short description, which should help inform the relevance of the results.
